Screenagers: Growing up in the Digital Age

Sir John Franklin is happy to be hosting the docu-series "Screenagers: Growing Up in the Digital Age".  The first viewing will be held at SJF on Thursday, November 7 at 6:30pm.  We will be showing two versions of this documentary: the original film is geared to Grades 6-9 students, and the brand-new elementary version is geared to students in Grades 1-5.  The movie addresses challenges school communities are facing today such as smartwatches in class, unhooking from and monitoring video gaming, social media pressures, exposure too young and the research on screen time effects. A range of experts have contributed to the movie with the latest research and insight, including Jonathan Haidt, author of the bestselling book, The Anxious Generation.

In order to help us be sufficiently prepared to host, we are asking you to click on this link https://forms.office.com/r/ewbg2CWnp8 to RSVP with your BEST GUESS as to how many people will be attending with you, and which film you would prefer to see. Feel free to share this invitation with friends! But please also include the RSVP link to be completed by November 5 so we are sufficiently prepared to host!

Fees

This week, you will see your students’ course fees updated on your MyCBE account.  These fees include the Arts Centered Learning fee, which allows our school to bring in Artists in Residence in addition to providing art supplies and other arts-centered opportunities in all core classrooms.  Individual course fees cover supplies required for each of our option courses. We keep these fees as low as possible, however the cost of food, lumber, and other supplies have increased significantly in the last few years.  Instead of increasing these fees, I am reaching out to request that families please work towards paying all fees charged to your student account, even if it is in a few installments throughout the year.  Last year, only 65% of fees were paid, which causes significant strain on our ability to run these programs effectively.  If we can work towards an increased percentage paid, we can afford to continue offering quality programming for your students at a low cost.  Thank you for your continued efforts as we work together.
