Registration for Arts-Centered Learning is Now Open!

One more reminder: if you have a younger student you are wanting to register here next year or know of anyone who might benefit from SJF’s creative and inclusive approach, registration is now open.  Spread the word!

Volleyball Season Has Begun!!

We are excited to be cheering on our Firebird teams!!  Volleyball is being held slightly differently this year, where each game is against a single team, and they play 5 consecutive matches.  This allows more schools to host as we are finished before any rentals arrive. During our home games, any students wishing to stay and cheer on their fellow Firebirds are welcome to do so for the first 2 matches, which end at 5pm.  At this time, any students not accompanied by their parents/guardians will be asked to head home.  If your child is expecting a ride, please be here at 5pm. Thank you!

Policy Reminders - Your Help is Appreciated!

Two Important reminders as we head into the second half of the school year:

1. If your child is leaving school for an appointment or any other reason, please CALL the school (403-777-7610) to let the office know when and how the student is leaving (pick up by whom, walk, bus, etc.), and then remind your student to come to the office to let us know when they’re leaving. This helps us prioritize student safety by ensuring that parents/guardians and school staff are aware of student whereabouts.  Thank you for your help with this.

2. As per SJF and CBE policy, as well as Alberta Education legislation, all K-9 schools are cell phone free from entry to exit time, meaning student personal mobile devices must remain in lockers at all times.  Our students have been overall very good at respecting these expectations.  Since winter break however, we have noticed an increase in students forgetting to leave their phones in their lockers, which is why I wanted to ask for your assistance with this reminder.  During the first few months of school, we worked on a three-strike system.  First offence, the student is asked to take their phone to their locker, second offence, the phone is placed in the office for the remainder of the day; third offence, the student must drop their phone off in the office and pick it up at the end of the day for a 2-week period.  As we are now 1/2 way through the school year, we expect students to require fewer reminders.  Moving forward, a first offence will result in the phone being brought to the office for the remainder of the day and any subsequent offences will result in the phone being brought to the office daily for 2 weeks.  Please note we have a secure location for any student devices brought to the office.  Additionally, students are welcome to choose this as a safe location to leave their devices instead of their lockers, as we also have charging ports should they request one.  We would like to work together as a team to help students follow expectations and focus on learning and connecting while at school.  Thank you for your help with this!
