Halloween is This Week!

Please keep in mind school rules around Halloween costumes:

  • No weapons of any kinds (not even pretend ones)
  • No full face coverage (masks, bodysuits, etc.)...face paint is totally okay!!
  • Be sensitive with “gore”...too much/too realistic can be a trigger for some.  (If you’re unsure, talk to Ms. Roberts or Ms. Aikens…they’re the experts!)
  • Learning needs to continue!!  If students can’t sit and work comfortably in their costume…then it’s not school appropriate.

In the afternoon, students will be participating in a variety of activities ranging from a costume contest, movies, art activities, games, and a Dance for students who are interested!  Attendance will be taken, so if your child will be absent, please call the absent line as usual.

Screenagers: Growing Up in the Digital Age

SJF is happy to be hosting the docu-series "Screenagers: Growing up in the digital age".  The first viewing will be held at SJF on Thursday, November 7 at 6:30 PM.  We will be showing two versions of this documentary: the original film is geared to Grades 6-12 students, and the brand new elementary version is geared to students in Grades 1-5.  The movie addresses challenges school communities are facing today such as smartwatches in class, unhooking from and monitoring video gaming, social media pressures, exposure too young and the research on screen time effects. A range of experts have contributed to the movie with the latest research and insight, including Jonathan Haidt, author of the bestselling book, The Anxious Generation.  An "RSVP" link will be sent out next week to ensure we are sufficiently prepared to host our own school community, our elementary feeder schools, and the Mayland Community at large.  Feel free to share the information and link when you receive it!!
