Leadership Initiative: Food Bank Drive

Our Grade 9 Leadership students have taken on a few charity-based projects between now and Christmas.  The second of these is a Food Drive to support the Calgary food bank.  Starting the week of December 18, students are invited to bring in non-perishable items to support families in need.  Although all donations are accepted and appreciated, the food bank has posted a “Wish List” with their most needed items.  They include:

• Cereal 
• Canned Meat 
• Canned Veggies 
• Canned Beans 
• Baby Formula 
• Canned Pasta Sauce (no glass jars)

Casino Volunteers Needed!

Hello SJF Parents,

We have our major fundraiser coming up on January 17 and 18, 2024. This is our casino that we do about every 18 months, this year we are at Pure Casino (off Barlow and 16th). The funds we receive from these events allows us to reduce the amount of fundraising that we do annually to pay for field trips, technology and in school experiences that are typically not funded by the CBE.

For these events, we are required to have a total of 40 positions staffed with volunteers between the two days (18 positions and 2 backups per day). Some people volunteer for one shift, some people don't mind doing two. 

There are three shifts per day. The day shift runs from 11:00AM to 7:15PM, the night shift runs from 7:00PM to 3:45AM and the courtroom runs from 11:00PM to 3:45AM. Each shift takes 6 volunteers to man, we have an advisor in the cash cage and another in the count room who will teach you how to do the position that you sign up for, a meal is provided and the proceeds we receive the following quarter allows us to better support the school.
