School Play Update

Our school play cast has officially been posted! We will be having our first rehearsal on Tuesday after school from 4:00-5:30. In our first rehearsal, we will be providing students with more information about the rehearsal process. We will be creating a Google Classroom where students can view the rehearsal calendar, see announcements, and access any other key information as we start this exciting journey together.

We would like to say thank you to all the students who auditioned. It is such a vulnerable process and we really appreciate their time and effort. We were left with some challenging decisions. For students who were not cast, we are happy to provide feedback on the audition if students arrange a meeting time with us. Also, we hope that these students will consider participating in the play through Backstage Club this year, as it is a vital part of the play process and a great learning opportunity. Students who start off in Backstage Club are often cast in the play as they reach older grades, as they have had a chance to familiarize themselves with the process and show their awesome work ethic.

Our hope is to get Backstage Club up and running around the start of December. Stay tuned for announcements with more information!

Child and Youth Well-Being Family & Caregiver Series

Well-being is a precondition for student achievement. Students need to be well to succeed. Currently, students face a wide range of mental health challenges, including stress, anxiety, and depression. This trend is alarming and requires our attention.

The Calgary Board of Education invites all parents and guardians to join us in an online series focusing on child and youth well-being. These sessions will be hosted in partnership with experts from Alberta Health Services and will explore topics such as vaping, brain development, mental health, and sexual health.

In CBE's second year of the Child and Youth Well-Being for Families and Caregivers Series, we have invited Calgary Catholic School District, Rocky View Schools, Palliser School District and other neighbouring school districts to join these webinars. There will be a five-part workshop series that is offered at no cost to all Calgarians.  The first session is coming up next week:

Understanding Vaping

Across Canada, e-cigarette use, also known as vaping, is reaching new heights amongst teenagers. This presentation will focus on common devices used for vaping, substances vaped such as nicotine and cannabis, and the health risks associated with vaping. We will present on how to engage in challenging conversations with your young person regarding vaping.
