Welcome Back to SJF

Hello SJF Families and happy almost-fall!

We are looking forward to welcoming your children back to school on Thursday, August 31. School will begin at regular bell times on that day: 9:10-3:50.

General information regarding school start up can be found here on our website. You will receive communication from your child(ren)’s homeroom teacher next week with some additional information before the first day.

  • Grade 5/6 students have a CBE $40 supply fee and therefore supplies are provided. Grade 7-9 students do not have this fee and the general supply list can be found on our website (linked above).  MOST IMPORTANT: students must have a pencil case with all ‘stationary supplies’ (pens/pencils/calculator/etc.) in each class.  We will be working on organization and school preparedness, as this is the first step to being ready to learn!  (Please note: all backbacks, included purses/fanny packs/sag bags/etc. will remain in lockers throughout the day.)
  • All Arts-Centred Learning students are charged a $75 ACL fee for the year; as you have selected Sir John Franklin specifically for the Arts-Centred Learning program, this is a mandatory fee and is not waivable.
  • Please note: Sir John Franklin continues to have an “Away for the Day” cell phone policy.  Students who choose to bring cell phones to school will be required to leave them OFF and in their lockers from 9:10-3:50 (with the exception of lunch hour for Grade 7-9 students).
  • Finally, congratulations to the following teachers who have moved on to new experiences: Ms. W-Giorgis, Ms. Klein, Ms. Drefko, Ms. Mullen, Ms. Kaur, and Mr. Morawski, and to Ms. Hardman who just had her baby this week!

Locations for meeting on Aug. 31 (if the weather is questionable we will have people directing students where to go). Teachers will have signs and lists of classes.

  • Grade 5 and 6 students meet at the front of the school.
  • Grade 7 students meet in the gym.
  • Grade 8 West field
  • Grade 9 East field

LEAD, CSSI and TASC students will be greeted by teachers and assistants at the bussing area.
