Hello SJF Families and happy almost-fall!

We are looking forward to welcoming your children back to school on Tuesday, September 2nd, after the long weekend. School will begin at regular bell times: 9:20-3:50.  Teachers will be outside ready to greet children at 9am at our usual 'soft entry' time.  The cafeteria will not be open on the first day of school, so please send your child to school with lunch, snacks, and a water bottle.  It will open for regular service on Wednesday, September 3.

You will receive communication from your child(ren)’s homeroom teacher with some additional information by the end of next week.  (Information about where to go on the first day is below).  Attached you will find our Student Handbook - please review this, as there are new policies.

  • Grade 5/6 students have a CBE $40 supply fee and therefore supplies are provided. Grade 7-9 students do not have this fee and the general supply list can be found on our website.  MOST IMPORTANT: students must have a pencil case with all ‘stationary supplies’ (pens/pencils/calculator/etc.) in each class.  We will be working on organization and school preparedness, as this is the first step to being ready to learn!  (Please note: all backpacks, including purses/fanny packs/sag bags/etc. must remain in lockers throughout the day.)
  • All Arts-Centred Learning students are charged a $90 ACL fee for the year; as you have selected Sir John Franklin specifically for the Arts-Centred Learning program, this is a mandatory fee and is not waivable.
  • As per Alberta Education's Ministerial order #014 and CBE Administrative Regulation AR6008, all CBE students who choose to bring personal mobile devices to school will be required to leave them OFF and in their lockers from the time they arrive at school until dismissal at 3:50.  More information

Locations for meeting on Sept 2 (if the weather is questionable we will have people directing students where to go):

Teachers will have signs and lists of classes

  • Grade 5 and 6 students meet at the front of the school.
  • Grade 7 students meet in the gym.
  • Grade 8 West field (behind the parking lot)
  • Grade 9 East field (Baseball diamond)

LEAD, CSSI and TASC students will be greeted by teachers and assistants at the bussing area.
